Bariatric Surgery
Laparoscopic procedures that alter stomach volume or the digestive route. The method is chosen together, once eligibility criteria and accompanying conditions have been assessed.
Procedures in this department

Sleeve Gastrectomy
A laparoscopic procedure in which part of the stomach is removed and the remainder shaped into a tube. The digestive tract stays continuous, so the effect on absorption is more limited than with bypass procedures.

Gastric Bypass
A small gastric pouch is created and part of the small intestine is bypassed. It is considered particularly where reflux or type 2 diabetes is part of the picture.

Mini Gastric Bypass
A single-anastomosis bypass with fewer connection points. The choice between procedures follows from eating patterns and accompanying conditions rather than from preference alone.

Duodenal Switch
A procedure that combines a sleeve with an intestinal bypass and has a more pronounced effect on absorption. Vitamin and mineral monitoring continues for life.

Revision Surgery
A second procedure planned where an earlier bariatric operation has not produced the expected result or a complication has developed. Endoscopy and imaging are carried out beforehand.
